What's included?
Have a go at throwing pots on the pottery wheel! This is a 2 hour session hosted by James or Hollie for you to get stuck in, learning the basics of throwing, with guidance and tuition.
Please understand that throwing clay on the wheel takes a bit of practice and patience to become confident with - it's a long game! The aim of this session is for you to have a taste of what it's all about with a view to giving you an idea of whether it's something you would like to pursue. The focus is on the process and learning rather than a physical outcome - though most people are able to turn a small piece of functional pottery on their first try, and a favourite piece will be glazed and fired and posted back to you.
For those who are more interested in coming away with a functional piece, and be guaranteed to have made something, hand building would be a better option.
What do I need?
Please wear sensible clothes and flat shoes that you don't mind getting dusty / dirty. Please make sure that long hair is tied back and bear in mind that nails need to be short for working on the pottery wheel. You may wish to bring an apron, but it's not really necessary!
What's next?
If you enjoy the mindfulness, satisfaction and teachings from working with clay, you may wish to consider booking onto our 5 week throwing course, to find out more about throwing different forms, turning, trimming and decorating at different parts of the drying cycle, and an introduction to glazing and firing.
