This session is designed for those who are curious about learning to throw clay and wondering if it is something that you'd like to pursue.
What's included?
A 2 hour session learning the basics of throwing, with guidance and tuition.
Please understand that throwing clay on the wheel takes a bit of practice and patience to become confident with - it's a long game! The aim of this session is for you to give it a try and give you an idea of whether it's something you would like to pursue. The focus is on the process and learning rather than a physical outcome - though most people are able to turn a small piece of functional pottery on their first try, and a favourite piece will be glazed and fired for you to collect later, if you decide not to pursue any further sessions (or we can arrange postage).
What do I need?
Please wear sensible clothes and flat shoes that you don't mind getting dusty / dirty. Please make sure that long hair is tied back and bear in mind that nails need to be short for working on the pottery wheel. You may wish to bring an apron, but it's not really necessary!
What's next?
If you enjoy the mindfulness, satisfaction and teachings from working with clay, you may wish to book onto our 5 session throwing course, to explore the next parts of the process (throwing different forms, trimming and refining, making and attaching handles, and of course, glazing). Following completion of our 5-session course, you can consider yourself a studio member, and you are then welcome to book 'open studio' sessions using the member's only booking system
Please contact info@saltydogpotterystudio.co.uk for all taster session bookings.
