What's included?
The session will start with a short introduction followed by a demonstration of how to pull up a neat cylinder - the basic form. It will then be over to you on the wheel!
Please understand that throwing clay on the wheel is a skill that takes time, practice and patience to become confident with - it's a long game! The aim of this session is for you to have a taste of what it's all about with a view to giving you an idea of whether it's something you would like to pursue. The focus is on learning about the process rather than making a piece of pottery - though most people are able to turn a small piece of functional pottery on their first try, which can be glazed and fired to be returned to you.
For those who are more interested in coming away with a functional piece, and be guaranteed to have made something, hand building would be a better option.
What do I need?
Please wear sensible clothes and flat shoes that you don't mind getting dusty / dirty. Please make sure that long hair is tied back and bear in mind that nails need to be a sensible length for working on the pottery wheel. You may wish to bring an apron. Please make payment for the session at the time, with either cash or card.
What's next?
If you enjoy the mindfulness, satisfaction and teachings from working with clay, you may wish to consider booking onto our 5 week throwing course, to find out more about throwing different forms, turning, trimming and decorating at different parts of the drying cycle, and an introduction to glazing and firing.
